The MG A is one of MG's first new post-war sports cars. In 1955 the MG A was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show as a replacement for the pre-war MG TF Midget. A total of 101,081 MGAs were produced between 1955 and 1962, of which only 5869 were for the British domestic market. This makes it the lowest selling British sports car on the UK market in percentage terms.
The design of the MGA dates back to 1951 when MG designer Syd Enever designed a streamlined body for George Philips' MG TD to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The problem with the TD was the driver's high seating position. Indeed, the narrow chassis of the TF did not allow for a deeper seat. A new chassis was designed with the floor attached to the underside of the frame, allowing for a more aerodynamic design. The idea was initially rejected by Leonard Lord, CEO of BMC, who had struck a deal to build the new Austin-Healeys. When sales of traditional MG models fell sharply, it was decided to produce the MG A.
The name was chosen because this car was to introduce a new line of sports cars.
The life of this MG A first started in America in 1957. After his adventures in the US, he was imported to the Netherlands in 1998. Upon arrival, he was immediately taken to the Hofman dealership in Leek. Since then, the previous owner has maintained it well and kept it largely original.
This MG is a good example of a beautiful, sporty and technically well-maintained MG A. It has been largely kept original. The "Dove Grey" paint gives it a classic look together with the beautiful black skai leather interior. The chrome wire wheels complete this beautiful classic. This car also has side windows and a tonneau cover. The chrome work is still of beautiful quality. The 1.5 liter 4 cylinder still runs nicely and makes the convertible a pleasure on the road.
A valuation report is available in which the MG A has been assessed very well. In addition, there are several photos of its history in the Netherlands.
