The Austin Healey Sprite

Designed by Donald Healey to make sports car driving more affordable, the Sprite went into production in March 1958 at MG's Abingdon plant. The new car was officially introduced in Monte Carlo a few months later, just before the Monte Carlo Rally, underlining the brand's sporting intentions for the new car. The one-piece body featured a distinctive rear-hinged combined bonnet and wings, topped by twin 'frog-eye' headlamps, ensuring instant recognition and the now-familiar nickname.

The Sprite offered by us has a very extensive well-documented history, consisting of a binder, including the 'drivers handbook', the restoration report and workshop notes (worth more than € 48,000).

The color combination is also very tasteful, the body is painted in Prim Rose Yellow. A very nice combination with the black leather interior, which is finished with a matching 'Primerose yellow' piping. Also very beautiful is the black convertible top with loose side windows.

This beautiful Austin Healey Sprite Mk1 was sold new in the USA. The car was imported to the Netherlands in 1995. After arriving in the Netherlands, the car was fully restored between 1998 and 2000. A large number of invoices and a photo report of the restoration are present. Neither expense nor effort has been spared.

Not only has this Austin been brought back to new optical condition, but this characteristic 'Frogeye' has also been technically updated… and what a treat! In the first place, the technology has been completely overhauled. The owner exchanged the 948 cc engine with 44 hp for a sportier 1.3 liter Triumph Spitfire Mk III engine with 75 hp. In addition, the differential and gearbox have been overhauled and the brakes have been completely overhauled.

The car has been extensively restored to top condition. After this top restoration, it goes without saying that the paint and bodywork are in great condition. The fits of the sills, fenders, doors, hood and grille are perfect, really a top copy.
This magnificent Sprite MK1 is in very good condition and the car drives perfectly and is ready to enjoy, it is hard to find a nicer example!
