Over de destijds zeer geavanceerde Porsche 928 is veel te vertellen. Bijzonder leuk is dat bij deze Porsche 928 een originele krant van 'Rijdend Nederland' aanwezig is uit 1973 met op de hoofdpagina een artikel over de aanstaande 928: "Over enkele jaren: Porsche met V8 voorin. Porsche brengt over enkele jaren een nieuw model met een voorin geplaatste, watergekoelde V8-motor met een inhoud van drie liter. Deze wagen zal in de toekomst de huidige 911-serie gaan vervangen." Dit laatste is (gelukkig) geen werkelijkheid geworden. Hoewel de 928 een relatief succesvol model was, bleef de traditionele 911 ook een gewild model en bleef deze in productie. De 928 werd geproduceerd vanaf 1978. Het door ons aangeboden exemplaar werd nieuw geleverd op 14 juni 1979 door Porsche Italia S.p.A. in Padova. Sinds 2011 is de auto is bezit geweest van de laatste Nederlandse eigenaar die hem vanuit een dokter in het Vaticaan naar Nederland bracht. Van zijn tijd in Italië is documentatie aanwezig, waaronder onderhoudsfacturen van het Porsche Centrum in Rome. De Italiaanse eigenaar in bezit van de Duitse Porsche moet een echte liefhebber zijn geweest, zo was hij lid van de 'Veteran Car Blub Viterbo' en de 'Automotoclub Storico Italiano'.

Ook de laatste eigenaar in Nederland is een liefhebber: de auto is afkomstig uit een Porsche-collectie met zeer zeldzame Porsches. Dit zegt iets over de staat van de auto: het is een ideaal verzamelobject vanwege de lage kilometerstand en uitstekende staat. Alle carrosseriedelen sluiten goed op elkaar aan, de auto is roestvrij en het lakwerk is goed. Ook het interieur is in bijzonder fraaie staat, zonder scheuren in het dashboard. De motorruimte is droog en de auto rijdt, schakelt en remt goed. De meeste 928's zijn voorzien van een automatische transmissie maar dit exemplaar is uitgerust met de begeerde en snellere handgeschakelde ''dogleg'' transmissie. Porsche adverteerde destijds met de zin "van 0 tot 100km/u en terug naar 0 in slechts 10 s" om aan te geven dat zowel acceleratie- als remvermogen bovengemiddeld waren. Ook beschreef Porsche de 928 als drie auto's in één: een sportauto met goede prestaties, een comfortabele, luxe coupé en een doelmatige, praktisch voertuig geschikt voor lange afstanden en bijna geen onderhoud. Deze woorden zijn niets teveel gezegd: naast uitstekende rijeigenschappen is de auto rijk uitgerust met onder meer 4 stoelen, airco, cruise control en elektrisch bedienbare ramen en spiegels. Bij de auto zijn onder meer een origineel krantenartikel, verkoopbrochure, technisch handboek, taxatierapport en twee serviceboekjes (Italiaans- en Duitstalig) aanwezig. Dit exemplaar in de fraaie blauwe metallic kleur met een hint groen is bijzonder goed bewaard gebleven en een aanvulling voor iedere verzameling.


Algemene informatie over de Porsche 928
De Porsche 928 werd in 1977 geïntroduceerd als een luxe 2+2 GT-auto. Vanwege steeds strengere veiligheidseisen moest hij de populaire 911 opvolgen. Het was de eerste Porsche met een V8-motor en de eerste Porsche leverbaar met een automatische transmissie. Het ontwerp was revolutionair en dankzij de krachtige, watergekoelde 4,5 -liter V8 motor met 240 pk heeft de auto heeft een acceleratie van 0 naar 100 km/u in 6,6 seconden en een topsnelheid van 230 km/u. De focus lag op een lichtgewichtconstructie: de motor is daarom gebouwd van aluminium, evenals verschillende carrosseriedelen en de bumpers zijn van kunststof. Verder is alles elektrisch of pneumatisch. Dat het een technisch complex voertuig is blijkt uit de meer dan 1000 stekkerverbindingen en 3 kilometer elektrische bekabeling die in de auto aanwezig zijn. In 1978 won de 928 de titel van "Auto van het Jaar". De Porsche 928 is de enige sportwagen die deze titel ooit heeft gekregen! De verkoopcijfers waren dan ook goed. In 1995 werd de productie stopgezet en de 928 werd opgevolgd door de Porsche 968. De 928 wordt nu beschouwd als een echte klassieker en heeft een groep loyale fans met in Nederland zelfs een Porsche 928 Club.

There is much to tell about the then highly advanced Porsche 928. Especially nice is that this Porsche 928 comes with an original newspaper from 'Rijdend Nederland' from 1973 with an article on the main page about the upcoming 928: "In a few years: Porsche with V8 in front. Porsche will bring a new model with a front-mounted, water-cooled three-litre V8 engine in a few years' time. This car will replace the current 911 series in the future." The latter has (thankfully) not become a reality. Although the 928 was a relatively successful model, the traditional 911 also remained a sought-after model and remained in production. The 928 was produced from 1978 onwards. The one we are offering was delivered new on 14 June 1979 by Porsche Italia S.p.A. in Padova. Since 2011, the car has been owned by its last Dutch owner who brought it to the Netherlands from the Vatican. Documentation of its time in Italy is present, including service invoices from the Porsche Centre in Rome. The Italian owner in possession of the German Porsche must have been a real enthusiast, as he was a member of the 'Veteran Car Blub Viterbo' and the 'Automotoclub Storico Italiano'.

The last owner in the Netherlands was also an enthusiast: the car came from a Porsche collection with very rare Porsches. This says something about the condition of the car: it is an ideal collector's item because of its low mileage and excellent condition. All body parts fit well together, the car is rust-free and the paintwork is good. The interior is also in particularly nice condition, with no cracks in the dashboard. The engine compartment is dry and the car drives, shifts and brakes well. Most 928s come with an automatic transmission but this one is equipped with the coveted and faster manual ''dogleg'' transmission. At the time, Porsche advertised the phrase "from 0 to 100km/h and back to 0 in just 10 s" to indicate that both acceleration and braking power were above average. Porsche also described the 928 as three cars in one: a sports car with good performance, a comfortable, luxurious coupé and a purposeful, practical vehicle suitable for long distances and almost no maintenance. These words are nothing too much to say: besides excellent handling, the car is richly equipped with four seats, air conditioning, cruise control and electric windows and mirrors, among other things. The car includes an original newspaper article, sales brochure, technical manual, valuation report and two service books (Italian and German). This example in the beautiful blue metallic colour with a hint of green is particularly well preserved and an addition to any collection.


General information about the Porsche 928
The Porsche 928 was introduced in 1977 as a luxury 2+2 GT car. Due to increasingly stringent safety requirements, it had to succeed the popular 911. It was the first Porsche with a V8 engine and the first Porsche available with an automatic transmission. The design was revolutionary and thanks to the powerful, water-cooled 4.5 -litre V8 engine with 240 hp, the car had an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h. The focus was on lightweight construction: the engine is therefore built of aluminium, as are several body parts and the bumpers are plastic. Otherwise, everything is electric or pneumatic. That it is a technically complex vehicle is evident from the more than 1,000 plug connections and 3 kilometres of electrical wiring present in the car. In 1978, the 928 won the title of "Car of the Year". The Porsche 928 is the only sports car ever to win this title! Consequently, sales figures were good. In 1995, production ceased and the 928 was succeeded by the Porsche 968. The 928 is now considered a true classic and has a group of loyal fans with even a Porsche 928 Club in the Netherlands.
