DAF 66 Marathon 1300, 1975.

Enkele decennia was de Variomatic actief vertegenwoordigd in de autosport: in Formule III racewagens in de jaren '60 en in internationale rallys en de rallycross in de jaren '70. Met name de prestaties in de London-Sydney Marathon en de Marathon de la Route zetten DAF in de spotlights. In een poging het imago van DAF personenwagens een sportieve impuls te geven, werd een optiepakket ontwikkeld voor 'de sportieve DAF rijder'. Zowel motorisch als uiterlijk werd de Daf 55 gewijzigd om als 'Daf 55 Marathon' door het leven te gaan, vernoemd naar de rally's waarin DAF naam maakte.

Waar 'de sportieve DAF rijder' vooral interesse had in het verhoogde vermogen, was met name het jeugdige rijderspubliek geïnteresseerd in de optische verfraaiingen die het Marathon pakket bracht. Juist deze doelgroep wilde DAF bereiken om een beter imago op te bouwen, dus de proefballon die het Marathon pakket was bleek een gouden zet.

Dit succes bracht DAF er toe om een aangepaste Marathon uitrusting af-fabriek te gaan leveren op verschillende carrosserievarianten van het 2e type van de Daf 55 lijn. De opvolger, de Daf 66 kon ook af-fabriek de Marathon uitrusting aangemeten krijgen, eerst als 1100 Marathon en later als 1300 Marathon.

Van de in totaal slechts 3.517 geproduceerde 1300 Marathon coupés is deze, uit december 1975 één van de latere exemplaren.

Ook de kleurencombinatie is zeer smaakvol te noemen, de carrosserie is gespoten in het 'Marina blauw'. Een zeer fraai contrast met het zwarte interieur. Tijdens sportieve ritten houden zwarte Cobra rallystoelen met rode veiligheidsriemen u in de juiste positie.

Het lakwerk en de carrosserie verkeren in een goede conditie. De passingen van de dorpels, spatborden, portieren, motorkap en kofferdeksel zijn keurig.

Oorspronkelijk komt deze DAF uit Zuid-Frankrijk dus absoluut roestvrij. En sinds 2012 op Nederlands kenteken geregistreerd.

For several decades the Variomatic was actively represented in motorsport: in Formula III racing cars in the 1960s and in international rallies and rallycross in the 1970s. In particular, the performances in the London-Sydney Marathon and the Marathon de la Route put DAF in the spotlight. In an attempt to give the image of DAF passenger cars a sporty impulse, an option package was developed for 'the sporty DAF driver'. The Daf 55 was modified in both motor and appearance to be known as the 'Daf 55 Marathon', named after the rallies in which DAF made a name for itself.

Where 'the sporty DAF driver' was mainly interested in the increased power, the young rider public was particularly interested in the optical embellishments that the Marathon package brought. It was precisely this target group that DAF wanted to reach in order to build up a better image, so the test balloon that was the Marathon package turned out to be a golden move.

This success prompted DAF to supply modified Marathon equipment ex-works on various body styles of the 2nd type of the Daf 55 line. The successor Daf 66 could also have the Marathon trim fitted ex-factory, first as 1100 Marathon and later as 1300 Marathon.

Out of a total of only 3,517 1300 Marathon coupés produced, this one from December 1975 is one of the later copies.

The color combination is also very tasteful, the body is painted in 'Marina blue'. A very nice contrast with the black interior. During sporty rides, black Cobra rally seats with red seat belts keep you in the right position.

The paintwork and bodywork are in good condition. The fits of the sills, fenders, doors, hood and trunk lid are neat.

This DAF originally comes from the south of France, so absolutely rust free. And registered on Dutch license plate since 2012.
