About the Triumph GT6 Spitfire

Triumph GT6 Convertible Overdrive 1968

- Original NL car
- 2.0 6 cylinder block
- Only 3 owners
- Overdrive
- Richly documented

The Triumph GT6 was delivered from 1966 to 1973 in three versions, all with a 2 liter 6 cylinder engine. The coupé was also called the 'poor man's E-type' in England because of the similarities with this model.
However, a GT6 convertible was never supplied by Triumph, probably because the price difference with a TR6 would be too small and that would lead to internal model competition. Because the GT6 and the 4 cylinder Spitfire share the same chassis, it is possible to replace the coupé body of the GT6 with a Spitfire body. A matter of 12 bolts. This also happened with this Triumph.
These converted cars are therefore fully accepted and valued as Triumph by the English Sports Six Club and the Dutch Triumph clubs.

The 42-25-DA   was built completely 'new' here in the Netherlands at the end of the nineties with a restored body. The technology is fully in accordance with GT6 mk2. The engine is in good condition, with normal oil consumption and runs very nicely. In normal use, count on a consumption of 1 in 10 to 1 in 12 kilometers per liter.
The Stromberg carburetors are in good condition and equipped with special needles to ensure a good fuel/air ratio in combination with the K&N air filters.

The doors are original GT6 and therefore equipped with the characteristic draft windows and the rectangular windows, unlike the Spitfires, which were only equipped with one window with a round finish. This gives the car a different character. The windows fit inside the convertible top by turning them down slightly before closing and then up again. You can then open it again by first turning the window down again. A wind deflector behind the headrests also applies.

The builder sold the car around 2000 to a dealer, who resold the car to a new owner. He owned the car for 13 years, but drove it very little. The current owner bought the car in 2014 and made all the improvements listed in the listing above to customize the car to his liking.

There are several types of documents available. For starters, there are dozens of invoices available over the years. This shows that the Triumph has always been serviced by a specialist. Also present is a valuation report. The report shows that the Triumph is valued at € 23,000.
In addition, a full report of the restoration process is available. Numerous invoices and parts lists.

A very unique opportunity for a very unique Triumph.
