The Cobra has become a phenomenon among classic sports cars. The model was built between 1962 and 1977 and original copies are very valuable. Following the original, replicas of this model were built for years by various manufacturers.
The origin of the Cobra lies with the AC Ace: an English sports car that could be called charming rather than temperamental because under the hood was a 2 liter Bristol engine. In 1961 production of the Bristol engine blocks stopped and so the AC Ace had no power source available. Texan and LeMans winner Carroll Shelby solved this for AC with a Ford V8 4.3 liter 'small block', which was no heavier and required no more space than the old Bristol six-cylinder but delivered twice the horsepower. From 1962 the ACs without motors left the factory in Thames Ditton and were transported to Shelby's workshop in the United States. The name was renamed AC Cobra by Shelby. Shelby soon decided to equip the ACs with the Ford V8 7 liter 'big block' with no less than 480 hp. The result was a sports car with an excellent weight/hp ratio and the acceleration of a fast sports bike. The Cobra went to 100 km/h in less than four seconds.

The Pilgrim Sumo MKIII was built in 1998 on the chassis of a Ford V6 – 2.9 injection (approx. 150 hp) and was supplied by L&B Cars/Classic Car Replicas vof in Belgium. The first registration is from 06-07-1982 as witnessed by the certificate of Pilgrim Motorsports. The gearbox is a Ford MT75 with which the engine power can handle well, which in turn conjures the sporty damper tones from the side pipes.
This Cobra is, at the moment, one of the best-built Pilgrims in the Netherlands and Belgium, is super tight on the chassis and is measured on all sides. The driving characteristics have become even better due to the all-round adjustable Spax suspension. The body, without body hinges, is metallic dark blue in color with double white stripes running the length of the car. The stainless steel frame, the engine grille and the rollbar are “custom made”
The Halibrand 15” inch aluminum rims with the large General XP2000 tires give the car the desired impressive appearance.
The colors of the soft top and the side windows are very beautiful, coordinated with the well-maintained beige leather interior. The moto-lita steering wheel with horn and Cobra badge complete the whole with the blue 4-point belts and the mass switch.
