"The Gentleman's Express"
The Jaguar Mark II was an upgrade of the Mark I and was produced from 1959 to 1967 and continued in production until 1969 under the name 240 and 340.
The relatively narrow rear track was widened with the fitting of a new uprated axle.
The design of the front and rear suspension remained unchanged, except for the necessary changes in the required geometry. Four-wheel disc brakes were fitted as standard and options included the Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive for manual transmission cars, automatic transmission and power steering.
The interior of the Jaguar Mark II was a sumptuous mix of walnut veneer and leather, complemented by carpeting. The interior of a car can make or break a sale and Sir William Lyons was very adept at giving his cars a luxurious look. The Mark II's dashboard was designed to make matching between production right-hand and left-hand drive cars as easy as possible, but it was and still is one of the most ergonomic designs made during that period.
Above the car's beltline, the changes were subtle but significant. Sir William Lyons and his team have increased the glass area by 18% by widening the windscreen and drastically enlarging the rear window. Similarly, the side windows were enlarged, with the rear side windows forming the Jaguar "D" shape that would become a familiar feature on other Jaguars

With the arrival of the Jaguar XJ in 1968, the MK II was replaced. With the 240 and 340, the body shape of the MK II remained in production until 1969, however, in terms of luxury and equipment, they went back to a basic version. The upholstery was changed to Ambla leatherette, while the fog lamps were replaced by vents, with fog lamps being an optional extra for the UK market. Production of the Jaguar 240 and 340 ended in 1969.

A beautiful original Jaguar 240 in the color Warwick Gray, since 2008 in the Netherlands and sold to the last owner in 2017. Which has had restoration work done for € 17,000 (invoices available), the car is hard and honest. With a mileage counter of 52955 originally driven miles and hardly any traces of use on both the exterior and the interior where the beige Ambla upholstery is still completely intact.
The spoke rims and the largely original Warwick Gray body color make this real classic a beautiful whole, on which a lot of money has been spent. The interior with the walnut dashboard, the Motorola radio, the spacious seats give the chic look that matches the car. The MOT history, the V5 document and the original manual complete the picture.

A fine, one of the last MK II 240s with a well-running engine is worth driving! Rightly called "The Gentlemen's Express"
