All Ferrari 550 Maranellos are special, but the World Speed Record Edition (WSR) is the rarest.
When then Ferrari CEO Luca Cordero di Montezemolo pulled the curtain on the 550 Maranello in 1996, the brand was preparing for a real renaissance in which user-friendliness was paramount. It would be the start of an impressive hierarchy of similar models with large, naturally aspirated V12 in the front such as the 575M, 599 GTB Fiorano, F12berlinetta and the current 812 Superfast.

Of a total of only 3,531 550s built, 448 were built as Barchetta.
The 550 was on the shortened chassis of the 456 2+2 and had a 485 hp (at 7,000 rpm) and 568 Nm (at 5,000 rpm) strong, naturally aspirated 5.5-litre DOHC 65° V12 with Bosch Motronic injection in the front, always mated to a six-speed manual transmission. This then sent its power to the rear wheels via a mechanical differential lock. The F133 engine would eventually win an Engine of the Year award twice in the above 4.0-litre category.

Thanks to its aerodynamic body with a drag coefficient of 0.33 Cx, signed Pininfarina, the 550 reached a top speed of no less than 320 km/h. A figure that is still very impressive even in 2022. And that gave Montezemolo the idea of having the Maranello compete for the title of the world speed record. In October of 1998, Modena therefore sent a slightly modified version to the 12 km oval circuit of Columbus, Ohia in the United States.

A few hours later, the 550 Maranello had three records in its pocket. For example, the GT achieved an average speed of 306 km/h, 304 km/h and 296 km in 100 miles (160 km), 100 km and one hour, respectively.

To celebrate these records, the Italians built 33 Maranello's World Speed Record editions to exacting car specifications in Ohio. These were standard equipped with the Fiorano handling pack, a leather-covered rollover bar with harnesses, Alcantara-covered steering wheel and carbon bucket seats with Daytona inlays. Other details included the standard Ferrari shields on the front wings, a sports exhaust, Corsa red brake calipers, leather interior and WSR nameplate.

This 550 WSR was delivered new in Italy in October 1999. The car has now driven 75,289 km. The maintenance was carried out by Ferrari dealers in Monaco and Bologna, among others. In the Netherlands, this car was maintained by Ferrari dealer Munsterhuis. This can be found clearly in the service booklet. The distribution set was replaced at 73,253 km and the last service was performed at 73,324 km. Naturally, things such as the original on-board tools and spare wheel are not missing. The body is very nice, the seams of the sheet metal, doors, boot lid and hood fit together perfectly.

Partly due to the very limited edition, this is a rare opportunity to come into possession of this sought-after and very interesting investment!
