De Jaguar Mk. II was een middelgrote sedan gebouwd van 1959 tot 1967 als opvolger van de 2.4 en 3.4 liter modellen. De mk. II was een handzame, krachtige en een goed sturende sedan die werd aangeboden met een keuze uit drie zescilindermotoren met dubbele nokkenassen; 2,4 liter, 3,4 liter of 3,8 liter. Van buiten leek hij eigenlijk sprekend op de Mk I, maar bij nadere inspectie blijkt dat de verschillen groter zijn dan het in eerste instantie lijkt. Op alle terreinen is de auto op subtiele wijze verbeterd. Mede dankzij de grotere ramen en dunnere raamspijlen kreeg de auto een opener karakter. De toegenomen spoorbreedte door een bredere achteras ten opzichte van de Mk I in combinatie met de aangepaste voorwielophanging kwam de wegligging behoorlijk ten goede. Ook in het interieur zijn er veranderingen doorgevoerd. Zo zijn de toerenteller en snelheidsmeter verhuisd naar een plek recht voor de bestuurder in plaats van de traditionele plaats in het midden van het dashboard. Ook het nieuwe stuurwiel met halve ring voor de claxon maakt zijn introductie met de Mk II. Daarnaast hij was uitgerust met de nieuwe Dunlop schijfremmen rondom in plaats van trommelremmen. De 220 pk sterke 3,8-liter motorvariant is de meest gewilde geworden.

Uiteraard waren de prestaties uitstekend en de Mk II heeft veel succes gehad op het circuit en kan nog steeds een zeer competitieve historische raceauto zijn. Geracet door beroemde namen als Stirling Moss, Bruce McLaren Graham Hill, Roy Salvadori en Michael Parkes, behaalde de Mk II dankzij de goede beheersbaarheid en het grote koppel van de 3.8 XK motor vele successen op circuits en autoraces in zowel Europa als de Verenigde Staten.

Het bijzondere aan de Mk II is dat vrijwel iedereen deze Jaguar kent. Er zullen genoeg herinneringen opgeroepen worden (Mede dankzij inspector Morse) wanneer er een Mk II voorbij rijdt. Daarnaast staat het model bekend als een van de best rijdende auto’s uit zijn klasse in die tijd. En heden ten dage is het nog steeds een aangenaam rijdende auto. Zijn bijzonder sportieve rijeigenschappen in combinatie met de uitstekende dagelijkse bruikbaarheid maakt de auto tot op de dag van vandaag tot een prettige en comfortabele reisgenoot. Deze auto is oorspronkelijk in de Staat Ontario in Canada geleverd, waarna de auto geëxporteerd is naar Europa. In 2022 is deze MK II op Nederlands kenteken gekomen.

De motor en versnellingsbak zijn een aantal jaren terug gereviseerd. De huidige eigenaar heeft door zijn leeftijd de auto niet volledig na kunnen lopen na de restauratie, daarnaast heeft de auto afgelopen jaren weinig gereden. Hierdoor zijn er nog enkele technische/mechanische verbeteringen nodig om de Jaguar helemaal af te maken en betrouwbaar te zijn. Zoals olielekkages, het stuur dat iets scheef staat, wat geluiden uit de wielophanging etc.

De prachtige kleurstelling van de donkerblauwe lak in combinatie met het rode lederen interieur maakt deze auto een lust voor het oog. De auto ziet er zeer goed uit uit en heeft prachtig chroomwerk rondom.

The Jaguar Mk. II was a mid-size sedan built from 1959 to 1967 as a successor to the 2.4 and 3.4 litre models. The mk. II was a handy, powerful and a good handling sedan offered with a choice of three six-cylinder dual-cam engines; 2.4 litre, 3.4 litre or 3.8 litre. From the outside, it actually looked very much like the Mk I, but closer inspection reveals that the differences are greater than it first appears. In all areas, the car has been subtly improved. Larger windows and thinner window bars helped give the car a more open character. The increased track width due to a wider rear axle compared to the Mk I combined with the modified front suspension benefited the handling considerably. Changes were also made in the interior. For instance, the tachometer and speedometer were moved to a position directly in front of the driver instead of the traditional position in the centre of the dashboard. The new steering wheel with half-ring for the horn also made its introduction with the Mk II. In addition he was equipped with the new Dunlop disc brakes all round instead of drum brakes. The 220 hp 3.8-litre engine variant became the most sought-after.

Needless to say, performance was excellent and the Mk II enjoyed great success on the track and can still be a very competitive historic race car. Raced by famous names such as Stirling Moss, Bruce McLaren Graham Hill, Roy Salvadori and Michael Parkes, the Mk II achieved many successes on circuits and car races in both Europe and the United States thanks to the good controllability and great torque of the 3.8 XK engine.

The special thing about the Mk II is that almost everyone knows this Jaguar. Plenty of memories will be evoked (thanks in part to Inspector Morse) whenever an Mk II drives by. Besides, the model is known as one of the best-driving cars in its class at the time. And today, it is still a pleasant driving car. Its particularly sporty handling combined with its excellent everyday usability makes the car a pleasant and comfortable travelling companion to this day. This car was originally delivered in the State of Ontario in Canada, after which it was exported to Europe. In 2022, this MK II was registered in the Netherlands.

The engine and gearbox were overhauled a few years back. Due to his age, the current owner has not been able to fully check the car after the restoration, besides, the car has not been driven much in recent years. As a result, some technical/mechanical improvements are still needed for the Jaguar to be completely finished and reliable. Such as oil leaks, the steering wheel being slightly crooked, some noises from the suspension etc.

The beautiful colour scheme of the dark blue paint combined with the red leather interior makes this car a sight to behold. The car looks very good and has beautiful chrome work all around.
